Cofounder of Ecosistema Urbano


Architects Belinda Tato and Jose Luis Vallejo are founding partners of Ecosistema Urbano, a Madrid-based group of architects and urban designers operating within the fields of urbanism, architecture, engineering and sociology. They define their approach as urban social design in order to understand environments, space and dynamic.  The goal is to improve self-organization among citizens, social interaction within communities and our relationship with the environment.  

Well-known projects of this firm include the design of an interactive public space for the Shanghai World Expo 2010, an experimental urban playground in Dordrecht (Netherland), the “Ecopolis Plaza” a waste to resources building on the outskirts of Madrid and the project Dreamhamar for Hamar (Norway), a network design project for the future of the main public space of the city.

Ecosistema also develops social software, exploring new possibilities of technology to empower people and improve social connectivity and interaction. The firm has created an online platform that develops social networks and manages online communication related to creative urban sustainability (  In addition to professional practice, they are devoted to teaching at different educational institutions worldwide and are currently at Harvard GSD and IE, where they will teach a Design and Technology Lab.
