Tipo de proyecto:

Madreat is a gastronomic complex that brings together the different strands of the cuinary world. It integrates a hospitality school, a student residence hall, a gourmet market, a greenhouse and an office building.
The project involved recicling a large plot which contained degraded industrial buildings. The plot provided a unique opportunity in central Madrid to make a unitary and radical intervention. The aim was to draw upon the industrial character of the site to create a unique urban landscape within the city. The proposal was conceived as an urban scale hybrid building that could work full time and become succesfully integrated in the surrounding urban fabric.
The north and south façades are the parts that have a more intense contact with the city. Therefore, on the north side the programs that interact with the existing urban activity are concentrated. A gourmet market with ready to eat products and an office tower are located there. The offices are built for companies in the food sector and contain large kitchens and seating areas interspersed in each floor. The program is complemented by two big plazas that integrate seating areas and decongest Cuatro Caminos. The first is on Reina Victoria Avenue and sets an access to the tower, while the second one includes a large public greenhouse and a cooking material shop. The south façade faces Santander park, however pedestrian transit is significantly lower than in the north one. A hospitality school is introduced as an activator. The student residence hall is also built in the south façade and has great views towards the park. A big access plaza forms a transition between the school and the park.
The approach seeks to balance density, and sustainable development of the city complementing the existing city and improving it. It is a city within the city. It minimizes ground floor occupancy to return space to the city as recreation areas to relieve its overcrowded environment. Its façades reflect the sky and the surrounding buildings making its presence lighter and less agresive. It is a reinterpretation of the industrial character of the site that gives back to the city an obsolete area transforming it into a multiple skill intervention.
