Flexible architecture is suitable to grow, compress, change and transform uses; show or hide services according to the moment. It’s even capable of moving from location, among other possibilities; is understanding that a structure is not a static entity incapable of learning and limited to other uses and dimensions.

In a greater effort to seek commercialization possibilities that were accessible to all citizens, nationwide, the municipal food fairs were created. Through these fairs, the Panamanian government supports local producers in the commercial self-management of their products. While, on a larger scale, consumers benefit by purchasing local food products at lower prices. The price reduction is achieved because there are no intermediaries.

Although, the initiative is good, there’s inconsistency due to the lack of infrastructure that could provide a proper storage. Fairs are usually assembled and supplied the same day if they are itinerant, if they are open on certain days, they need to be constantly supplied to ensure that products are preserved. Nowadays, municipal food fairs unfold in an improvised way with unstable conditions, within sectors that are susceptible economically and socially.

The main objective is to establish the spatial configuration of a municipal fair, as an element that promotes the organization in sales and good management. By treating a conventional problem through specific interventions, it is possible to establish a model that conveys general solutions. The system, should be potentially capable of expanding, which must be read in a conceptual way as a living organism, capable of breathing; without seeking to establish rigid configurations, since the activities and sales at the fairs are not identical or invariable.

The project is approached from two premises, firstly, a spatial one, analyzing the contexts in which fairs take place; and another functional, evaluating the fair operations. By exploring the contexts and their original uses, not only in extended fairs but also in temporary ones, the approach is broader. It looks for opportunities to create additional urban spaces or, in some cases, anticipates the possible adaptation of the system’s structure, to improve the original use of the area where the temporary fair unfolds.
