IE Architecture + Prize

This project was part of my final thesis prior to obtain the bachelor diploma in Architecture. Leaded by Senior Architect Fernando Calle, the main objective was to intervene in an undeveloped area of my country. The place selected: Esmeraldas City, situated in the northern pacific coast of Ecuador, is one of the most bio diverse regions in the world. In the other hand, due to the lack of strategies on urban planning and development it has grown uncontrolled and become chaotic. The first part of my thesis consisted in an urban development model for the city, with special focus in sustainability and ecology.
In the second part I designed the Health and Life Studies Center in order to develop new educational infrastructure. This infrastructure will educate professionals in the field of Medical and natural sciences, and must respond adequately to its environment. Furthermore, as science and technology advances it is necessary for architecture to evolve as well. The project seeks to redefine and reinterpretate how and educational environment should be. As a result, the project presents a series of spaces different than the traditional classroom. These work as informal spaces that encourage the interaction between students and the natural environment surrounding the project.
