S 4 S surge como una respuesta efímera de pabellones de verano en el órgano verde de la ciudad de Nueva York, adquiriendo el carácter del contexto en el que se situa: la superposición variable y dinámica de distintas actividades y multitudes. Por ello, atiende a las situaciones que allí acontecen, así como las afluencias del parque, fomentando la actividad en las áreas de menor flujo como emplazamiento principal.
Se plantean módulos flexibles que se caracterizan por su adaptabilidad espacial. La estructura está basada en un patrón que permite variaciones volumétricas manteniendo una superficie de cerramiento constante gracias a un sistema sencillo de poleas.
Este mecanismo permite definir cuatro módulos en función de las actividades que se van a realizar en cada uno. No obstante, para poder abordar los picos de visitas en fechas concretas, cada unidad permite la unión con otras generando una concatenación de espacios de mayor magnitud.
Los pabellones se relacionan entre sí a través de la estructura auxiliar que genera espacios de transición entre el parque y módulos propuestos.Se presta especial importacia a la reutilización de materiales tanto a nivel de cerramiento cómo estructural.
Este carácter efímero de la propuesta posibilita el traslado rápido a otros puntos del parque y la ciudad para cubrir necesidades de los eventos que se lleven a cabo. En cuanto a su implantación se tiene en cuenta factores cómo la participación ciudadana para el montaje y el respeto del plano verde del suelo minimizando los puntos de apoyo de la estructura.
