Re-Mind
A reminder of nature. A readjustment of the mind.

MESC, a new paradise cocooned into the coast of Ibiza. Reaching into the pure state of human relaxation and unity with nature.

Today many visitors seek a reconfiguration of one’s self mind through the psychedelic world of Ibiza’s ceaseless partying culture. Nurtured from the 70s/80s ‘hippie culture’ spirit of ‘reaching an alternate state of mind,’ this experience is enhanced by the artificial lights, endless nights and drunken sights.

Ibiza, also known as the White Island, is located in the Mediterranean Sea, 79 km from the Iberian Peninsula, forming part of the Balearic islands (Spain) along with Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera, as well as various smaller islets.

The island has an area of 572 km² and a coastal longitude of 210 km, with more than 40 alternating rocky crags and islets of various sizes. The maximum distances of the island are 41 km from north to south and 15 km from east to west. It possesses a highly irregular morphology formed by various mountains, the tallest amont them is Sa Talaia, with an altitude of 475 m.

Along with Formentera and its numerous islets, the largest of which is Es Vedrá, with an altitude of 382 m, they are known as the Pityusic Islands (the Pine Island in Greek).

Beautiful natural parks, tranquil coasts of turquoise water and abrupt cliffs, endless parties at night, remarkably peaceful traditional pueblos, reminiscences of a hippy vibe, markets, exclusive environments, delicious traditional cuisine and the most beautiful sunsets in the Mediterranean, all come together on the Pityusic island.

The island is famous around the world for its beauty, coves and the quality of its water and also for its renowned nightlife.

The island authorities are trying to promote a calmer, sustainable and high quality tourism that will make the Pityusic island a reference in the tourism sector.

The objective of the Mediterranean Sea Club (MESC) Ibiza competition for students of architecture and young architects is to produce a new leisure model on the fragile and unique coast of this Mediterranean island.

The idea is for the MESC to become an alternative to the tourism currently offered by the island, and making it possible to rethink how to occupy the Mediterranean coast.

Its location half way between the coastal line and the ocean-surface, will provide different opportunities for relaxation and leisure activities that will little by little become another attraction for visitors to the island.

Swimming, sunsets, gastronomy, aquatic sports... will be part of what the MESC will offer its visitors.

The proposal must meet the demands and needs of island residents as well as visitors, paying special attention to sustainability and the environment, while allowing visitors to relax and enjoy themselves.

The MESC will offer a new public space for recreation, with different possibilities for its use, in which diverse leisure activities can take place. A place that will attract visitors and invite people to swim, take part in aquatic sports, rest or simply socialize. A place where the unexpected is possible.

The Mediterranean Sea Club (MESC) wants to become another tourism reference on the Pityusic island.

The following prizes will be awarded to proposals that best meet the purpose of the competition:
